Purple Bamboo Matcha Whisk/ Chasen - Handcrafted Shin

A Shin chasen hand-carved from purple bamboo - finer and more flexible prongs than a standard whisk, which is where the silkier foam comes from.

The flexibility is the whole point. A whisk for someone who already makes matcha often enough to notice the difference.

Finer prongs bend further per stroke, so the same effort moves more air. It is the difference between foam and froth.

Care

• Before first use, soak the prongs in warm water for a few minutes to soften and open them
• Rinse in warm water immediately after use. No soap, no dishwasher
• Swirl in a bowl of clean water rather than scrubbing
• Air dry prongs-up on a whisk stand - drying flat is what makes a chasen lose its shape
• Store uncovered. A sealed container traps moisture and invites mould
• Prongs will thin and break with use. A well-used chasen is a consumable, not a failure
