Description

A spouted bowl, a fine bamboo whisk, and a small sifter. Three pieces chosen to work together, for matcha made slowly and with intention.

The bowl comes from Hyozan Kiln in Toki City, Gifu, a town that has been making Mino ware for centuries. Its katakuchi shape has a gentle spout at the rim, so the same bowl you whisk in can also pour. Each one is glazed and fired by hand, and no two leave the kiln quite alike.

The whisk is a Shin chasen carved from purple bamboo. Its prongs are finer and more flexible than a standard whisk, so they bend further with each stroke and draw more air into the tea. That is where a silkier foam comes from. The sifter handles the step most people skip: a few seconds over the bowl breaks up the clumps that humidity leaves in the powder, and the tea whisks smooth.

Choose your glaze: Kohiki, a soft powdered white, or Kurogaki, a deep black persimmon.

Every set comes with free gift wrapping: the three pieces packed together in a gift box and wrapped by hand in our studio, ready to give. Or keep it for yourself; a quiet morning ritual is a gift too.

A note on handmade ware
Natural clay and glaze leave their marks: small iron specks, pinholes, uneven glaze or drips, and fine crazing (kannyu) that may appear at purchase or develop with use. These are part of each bowl’s character, not flaws.

Care

  • Bowl: Wash gently by hand. Not for dishwasher, microwave, oven, or direct flame. Don’t leave liquid sitting in it for long periods.
  • Whisk: Soak the prongs in warm water for a few minutes before first use. Rinse in warm water after each use, without soap. Dry prongs-up and store uncovered.
  • Sifter: Brush the mesh clear, rinse, and dry fully.
