A fried shrimp in coarse breading with a red tail, made as a chopstick rest at Ihoshiro Kiln in Mizunami, Gifu Prefecture, one of the towns that make Mino ware. The breading is ceramic too, built up and finished piece by piece.
The kiln fires in electric kilns and runs its workshop partly on solar power.
Small enough to sit beside a rice bowl, steady enough to rest a pen on your desk.
