Description

Crafted in the mountain-shrouded workshops of Toki City, this Katakuchi (spouted) bowl is a collaborative masterpiece between SALIU and the renowned Minami-gama kiln. Every step—from kneading the clay and shaping the form to glazing, hand-painting, and firing—is performed by master traditional craftsman Takumi Kudo and his wife, Sachie.

The Haoto (Leaf Sound) design is deeply evocative, capturing a moment of stillness where one can almost hear leaves rustling in the breeze. The vessel features a refined white-walled base, hand-painted with delicate iron-oxide brushwork that mirrors the natural world. Its sculptural form and deep, earthy texture make it far more than just a matcha bowl; it is a versatile piece that serves beautifully as a dessert bowl, a serving dish for small appetizers, or a striking centerpiece for your home.

Care and Quality Note

Because this is a completely handmade piece by a traditional craftsman, please note the following:

  • Unique Expression: Due to the nature of the handmade process, every bowl varies in size, color, pattern, and glaze expression. We encourage you to cherish these individual differences as the unique personality of your specific bowl.

  • Living with the Ware: The soil and glazes were chosen for their soft, organic textures. Over time, as you use the bowl, the surface will develop its own character—including fine crazing (kannyu) and subtle stains. We hope you will embrace these changes as a sign of the bowl’s history and the moments you have shared with it.

Care Instructions:

  • Not suitable for direct fire, microwaves, ovens, dishwashers, or dish dryers.

  • Please wash gently by hand.

  • As this is a porous ceramic piece, avoid leaving liquid or food inside for extended periods to prevent absorption. It is not recommended for highly oily or strong-smelling foods.
